Annual inflation in Ukraine accelerated to 8.1% in August
In August 2026, consumer prices in Ukraine rose by 0.1% compared to July. On a year-over-year basis, inflation accelerated to 8.1% from 7.7% a month earlier. This was reported by the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.
Core inflation in August stood at 0.5% month-over-month, while on a year-over-year basis it remained at 8.1%. From January through August 2026, consumer prices were 7.8% higher than during the same period last year.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages became 1.3% cheaper over the month. Prices fell the most for vegetables — by 18.3% — and fruits — by 12%. At the same time, eggs, sugar, fish, meat, cheese, bread, and other food products became more expensive.
A notable increase was recorded in the transportation sector: prices rose by 4.4% over the month and 23.8% over the year. Fuel and lubricants became 8.1% more expensive over the month, while road passenger transportation rose by 6.6%. Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels rose by 1.3% over the month.
August’s trends indicate that, following a summer slowdown, the annual inflation rate has begun to rise again: it stood at 7.2% in June, 7.7% in July, and 8.1% in August.
