Ukraine launches regular rail freight route to Romania
Ukrzaliznytsia has introduced a new регулярний cargo service between Romania and Ukraine in cooperation with UZ Cargo Poland and CTS “Lisky”.
The first shipment transported oversized steel sheets from Constanța port to Perechyn station — without reloading.
Details. The route runs via the Halmeu and Diakove border crossings. A key advantage is the bogie exchange technology, allowing wagons to switch between 1520 mm and 1435 mm gauges without unloading cargo — reducing transit time to just a few hours and lowering costs.
Why it matters. The new corridor strengthens access to Romanian ports and helps attract cargo flows at a time when freight volumes are under pressure.
